The Rio Grande Village Trail is a short .75- mile loop located at the SE edge of the Rio Grande Village campground. It's an easy trail with a small elevation gain. This sweet little hike is suitable for nearly any fitness level as well as small children. There are great views of the Rio Grande, Chisos Mountains and the Del Carmen Mountains of Mexico. Wildlife is abundant in this part of Big Bend. We encountered several javelinas. The marshy area is popular with bird watchers

Lost Mine Trail, Big Bend National Park, TX

Lost Mine Trail is a moderate-difficulty 4.8-mile out-and-back located in Big Bend National Park. This is a popular trail and is heavily trafficked during the park's peak season from Nov. 15-April 15. The 1,100-foot elevation gain is accomplished through a series of switchbacks. There are a few sections of fairly steep climb on jagged rock. But overall this is a trail that could be accomplished by most. This beautiful hike in the Chisos Mountains takes you through sections of

Located about seven miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park, BJs RV Park is a great option for those who choose not to stay in the campgrounds within Big Bend. It was a busy weekend during our visit to the park. Since our itinerary was loosely planned, we had no reservations and all campsites within the park were full. The RV park has 29 sites with hook-up plus a large open space used for tent camping or vehicles not requiring electricity or water. We parked the Juc

The Window Trail, Big Bend National Park, TX

The Window Trail was our introduction to hiking the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend. It did not disappoint. The 5.6 mile out-and-back trail is accessed from the Chisos Basin Trailhead. The moderate-difficulty trail descends over 800 feet and has a fair amount of traffic. The warm January temperature and clear skies made for a great day. Many hikers report bear sightings along the route, but we weren't so lucky. Hikers are rewarded with some spectacular panoramic views through th
