So our first night of the journey was spent at Basalt Campground at the San Luis Reservoir, about 2 hours from where we picked up the Jucy in Oakland. This is a very well maintained campground with clean, modern bathrooms and paid showers.
Sites are dry with no hook-ups. There are paths running out of the campground up the rolling hills surrounding the campground. It's an easy walk up to get panoramic views of the entire valley and reservoir.
The reservoir is used for boating. We saw several cars coming in with kayaks.
This was a short overnight stop for us on the way to Death Valley.
