Bayou Segnette State Park Campground, Westwego, LA

Camping at Bayou Segnette State Park is a great option for travelers wishing to experience the outdoors while remaining in close proximity to New Orleans, about 12 miles away.

Bayou Segnette offers 98 sites with water and electric. Bathrooms have free showers and, surprisingly, the on-site laundry facilities are free as well. Open wifi is accessible from most areas of the park.

The campground was completely full during our January stay. So making a reservation for this affordable state campground is a good idea. We reserved a site about three days in advance.

Most of our camping is focused on proximity to great hiking. While this state park has limited paths (but a nice boat launch ad fishing docks!), nearby Jean LaFitte National Historical Park has some 4-5 mile walking trails that hold the opportunity to view plenty of wildlife, including gators, if you're lucky.

While we passed on the trails of Jean LaFitte due to muddy conditions and heavy rainfall during our stay in the area, we did make it to one of Jean Lafitte's historic battlefields.
