Joshua Tree National Park has some of the best desert camping found in the country. Cottonwood Campground is conveniently located just a few miles from I-10 while still providing some of the darkest night skies in Joshua Tree. The campground has 62 sites for tent and RV camping. While there are no hook-ups, clean restrooms are available for visitors.
Winter months in Joshua Tree provide great hiking weather. We took advantage of the clear skies and warm temps by taking the Lost Palms Oasis Trail. This is a moderate difficulty 7.2 mile out-and-back desert trek. While there aren't any Joshua Trees on this trail, there is plenty of desert vegetation and expansive views to enjoy along the route to a beautiful little palm oasis.
